Solutions for Good
A platform for ambitious high school students to share ideas for social good
GRC is an international 501(c)(3) non-profit with branches at over 20 top universities around the globe, including Harvard, UPenn, and Columbia.
Every year over 1,000 GRC members work with non-profits, NGOs, startups, governments, and corporations on solving their social impact challenges.
Every year, GRC hosts an essay competition for high school students from around the world to brainstorm Solutions for Good.

Background:
MotherFirst Alliance (MFA) is a nonprofit working to reduce maternal mortality in Sub-Saharan Africa through mobile prenatal clinics, midwife training, and community health education. MFA has successfully piloted programs in rural Kenya but aims to expand into neighboring regions with higher maternal risk.
Situation:
MFA faces challenges including:
1. Limited healthcare infrastructure in target regions
2. Difficulty recruiting and retaining trained health workers
3. Fragmented funding sources and inconsistent donor support
Your Task:
As consultants, propose a strategy to help MFA expand sustainably by addressing:
1. Root causes of barriers to maternal care access
2. A scalable model for workforce development and service delivery
3. Partnership opportunities with ministries of health, NGOs, and private providers
4. A 12-month implementation roadmap with measurable KPIs
5. Risks (political instability, supply chain disruption) and mitigation plans
ConnectEd Futures
Background:
ConnectEd Futures is a nonprofit providing digital literacy training and low-cost devices to students in low-income communities across Latin America. Their mission is to ensure equitable access to technology and future workforce skills.
Situation:
Despite strong demand, ConnectEd struggles with:
1. High device and infrastructure costs
2. Unequal internet access across regions
3. Limited ability to measure long-term educational outcomes
Your Task:
Develop an evidence-based plan to:
1. Expand access while maintaining affordability
2. Partner with telecom providers and governments
3. Improve program evaluation and impact tracking
4. Create a sustainable funding strategy beyond grants
5. Build a 1-year rollout plan for expansion into 2 new countries
BlueSource Initiative
Background:
BlueSource Initiative is a nonprofit working in South Asia to provide affordable clean water through filtration kiosks, rainwater harvesting systems, and community-led water governance.
Situation:
BlueSource aims to expand into drought-prone areas but faces:
1. High upfront infrastructure costs
2. Community mistrust of outside interventions
3. Limited coordination with local governments
Your Task:
Propose a strategy addressing:
1. A sustainable expansion and financing model
2. Community engagement and trust-building approaches
3. Partnership opportunities with governments and engineering firms
4. A 1-year implementation roadmap with KPIs
5. Risk mitigation for climate shocks and political instability
Rules
Team composition:

All essays will be screened for plagiarism using software. Any plagiarism will result in immediate disqualification.
